ABOUT

Michael Crean is a musician, theatre-maker and artist from London. 

As a songwriter Crean creates and records his music entirely himself from his shed in Southwest London. He creates alternative electro-acoustic music that combines influences such as Kae Tempest, Mount Kimbie, Damien Rice and Radiohead. His first two solo releases have been described as ‘Multilayered and emotional’ by Glasse House and 'Enigmatic and Intriguing' by Electric Sound of Joy. 

He trained in Composition and Jazz Piano at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

 

As a theatre maker he trained at East 15 on the Acting and Contemporary Theatre course and in Directing at the Young Vic Theatre. Crean co-founded two theatre companies (Red Chord Theatre and Sense Assembly) that mix spoken word poetry, music and theatre to create original multi-disciplinary work. 

The forum theatre play 'NUMB' which Michael co-wrote and directed debut'd at Vault Festival 2020. Sense Assembly received the EDFC Creativity Award 2019 and the Essex Graduate Award 2020.

KALA's debut EP which he co-wrote and produced was awarded as Top 5 EP's of the week on BBC Radio1Xtra and is featured on Universal Music Spotify playlists.

Crean has written music for films screened at BFI, BAFTA and London Fashion Week, and for theatre at Shaftesbury Theatre, CLF Art Cafe, Vault Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Michael recently received awards for Best Original Score at Mindfield Film Festival and Impact Doc awards for his work on 'Arch Angel Ali'.
